I am sure that you are now very much familiar with the new data protection laws, and if you’re like me have taken the opportunity to unsubscribe from a lot of mailing lists. This has also given me a chance to reflect on this little website and to set out the following legal stuff.
First, this is a private blog and website written by me (Sandy Scott) to share my own research on my family, share tips and tricks I have learnt when researching family history, relate interesting records and information I may have read on the lives of our ancestors, share a little of the history that I may have found interesting in my travels, and share family history related websites that I have used. It is not an exhaustive or comprehensive list.
I am not an expert. All advice is given in good faith and opinions are mine. If you have any questions please contact me on email@example.com
To that end, everything you see on this website is copyrighted and was created by me unless stated otherwise. Please do not use content or photos or pictures without first asking my permission (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Recommendations, PR and advertising
To date, I have not received any payment for referring to a particular product, brand or website. Neither have I been asked to review, recommend or otherwise refer to any particular product, brand or website. Any references to other products, brands or websites to date are my own opinion and I have not been paid for them.
If at some point in the future someone takes an interest in this particular little corner of the web, I may accept forms of advertising, sponsorship, affiliate links, free products, services, travel, event tickets, or other forms of compensation. If (in my wildest dreams) this does happen, then the content, advertising space or post (blog, social media etc.) will be clearly identified as paid or sponsored content.
If in the future I am ever compensated for an opinion on a product, service, website etc the views and opinions expressed in the blog will still be my own. Any endorsement of a product or service will be based entirely on my own expertise and experience (unless stated otherwise). You should always review a product or service based on your own unique set of circumstances.
Collecting and using your information
Recent changes (I’m sure you know all about them) have meant that all corners of the web that interact with the EU need to be open and honest about how they deal with your information.
This website (thescottsisters.co.uk) is a private website that runs off wordpress. I do not allow comments, picture uploads, or have a contact form. Therefore I do not collect any data (anonymous or otherwise) through third party services or plugins. If in the future I do permit comments and the like, then I will update this policy accordingly.
I have a mailing list that is run using a newsletter distribution program called MailChimp.
I do not like spam or being harassed needlessly by unending emails – even from great websites (like this) that I have signed up to. I promise to only contact you via email about this website – new blog posts, content updates and the like. I will not bombard you with unsolicited referrals and spam (no one likes spam!). Typically my emails will only come out every 6 months when I do a blog post (because honestly…I have no time to write them more frequently). If via a small miracle I manage to write more regularly in the future then I expect I will send emails no more frequently than weekly at best.
I will not sell on your data to anyone. Your details will only be used by me for the purposes stated above.
Contact details for those who have signed up to my mailing list are stored on the Mailchimp database. It is only accessible by me and is protected by password security. I have deleted all previous contact databases and have a new mailing list from 28 May 2018. Mailchimp allows the subscriber to unsubscribe easily at any time. If you have any questions or problems please email me at email@example.com and I will erase your data on request.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
I use Google Analytics to understand my website interactions (where and when people may access my site). This is anonymous data and I will not sell it on to third parties.
